Game Build

Students must create a brick breaker game following the introductory tutorials to demonstrate a basic understanding of game building.

Students will then create a platform game, conforming to their Game Design/Plan

Game development will be done using an appropriate Game Animation Tool – e.g. Godot (https://godotengine.org)

Part 1: Students must create a basic brick breaker game that conforms to the following specifications:

·        It must consist of a multiple bricks that disappear when colliding with the ball

·        It must have a paddle that is used to bounce a ball

·        It must have walls that the ball will bounce off.

More complex games will receive more marks for features such as

·        A life system

·        An accumulative score system

Part 2: Students must create a platform game that conforms to the following specifications:

·        It must consist of a range levels or screens

·        The game must have a goal to achieve

·        It must have obstacles and enemies

More complex games will receive more marks for features such as

·        A life system

·        An accumulative score system

·        A main character that can collect and shoot a weapon

·        Enemies or guns that shoot

·        Introduction, instruction and menu pages

Marking Criteria

Time Management and Project Management

Student’s ability to manage their time effectively in class.

Students are able to manage the completion of a complex game and to submit it on time. Complexity of the game will be considered when this mark is allocated; e.g. The more physical time needed to complete the game will be estimated and accounted for.

Number of Errors in the Game

The number errors, problems or glitches in the game are accounted for. The less errors the higher the mark.

E.g. Health bar, Score, Collection of elements, Shooting.
The game construction demonstrates a very high level of knowledge of the software program.
