3 main modes for transmission of data over a network:
Simplex Simplex mode allows transmission in one direction only, from the sender to the receiver.An example of simplex mode is the radio, a telegram or television.
Half Duplex Half duplex mode allows transmission in both directions but not at the same time. This means the sender and the receiver take turns. An example of half-duplex mode is an intercom, walkie-talkie or disk drive.
Full Duplex Full-duplex mode allows transmission in both directions at the same time. Most communications systems, such as the telephone or email, use full-duplex mode.
